Fieldwork Techniques
Geographers, scientists and archaeologists all rely on gathering reliable data from the field in a fair and repeatable manner. This day is designed to introduce students to the skills necessary in their subject to successfully design and carry out data gathering projects. The day can tailored to the needs of each group and subject and can cover many methods or look in detail at the particular techniques required for a piece of coursework. We offer a range of traditional data collection methods as well as modern digital techniques with powerful data analysis tools. Historians can also benefit by developing archaeological excavation skills and architectural and landscape interpretation methods.
How Big Is Your Footprint?
This activity is a fun exploration of the different ways in which human activity can affect the earth. This activity enables pupils to explore their own ecological footprint and ways of reducing this footprint in the future. Looking mostly at sustainable development a historical theme is also developed by exploring how our own footprint differs to that of a young person in Little Wittenham in Victorian times, using literacy as a context.
The Northmoor Trust's Wild Waste Show can offer FREE follow-up sessions in school on sustainable development projects.
