Take Action at School
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Book the Wild Waste Show to visit your school to learn more about reducing waste at school.
- Use both sides of printer paper.
- Recycle cans, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tubs and pots. Set up a recycling box for any packed lunch waste.
- Encourage children to bring their lunches to school in old ice cream containers or sandwhich boxes instead of using foil or sandwich bags.
- Use recycled paper and recycled toilet paper in school.

Composting
- It's important that the compost produced is used on school gardens allowing children to see the end product of composting.
- Set up a composting collection bin in the school dining room for fruit peelings and left-over food.
- Rotate composting responsibilities between classes through the week.
- Get your school kitchen to add their fruit and vegetable peelings to the compost too.
- Don't forget you can also compost tea bags from the staff room.
- Also add cardboard, shredded paper, toilet roll tubes, egg boxes and paper hand towels to the compost bin. These are known as 'browns'. A compost bin needs about 50% of 'browns' to avoid the fruit and veg peelings turning to a slimy mess.
