Take Action

Composting

Composting is nature's way of recycling.

By composting kitchen and garden waste you can easily improve your garden's soil quality.

Where To Place Your Compost Bin

  • Place your bin on a level, well drained site
  • A level bin makes it easier for excess water to drain out, and worms and little creatures to get in
  • A sunny spot speeds up the composting process

What To Put In Your Compost Bin
Good 'Greens' to include in your compost bin include:

  • vegetable peelings
  • fruit waste
  • teabags
  • plant prunings
  • grass cuttings

Good 'Browns' to add to your bin include:

  • cardboard egg boxes
  • fallen leaves
  • scrunched up paper
  • crushed eggshells

Things To Keep OUT Of Your Compost Bin
Certain items should NOT be placed in a compost bin:

  • cooked vegetables
  • meat
  • diseased plants
  • dog poo or cat litter
  • dairy products

Using Your Compost
Finished compost will be dark brown and will be at the bottom of your bin.
