Neptune Wood, the Northmoor Trust’s Trafalgar site is on the edge of Long Wittenham. It was opened to the public in April 06 by HRH Princess Anne who is to give the wood a Royal dedication during her visit in Dec 06.
The Trafalgar Woods education programme is believed to be the only national education element of the Trafalgar celebrations. The programme aims, for each Trafalgar Wood, to involve a child in planting trees for each member of the crew (5-800 children involved per wood). In addition, the programme provides a range of resources and supporting materials to enable all schools to undertake either commemorative planting, or to structure lessons based on the battle and the historical context.
