Poplar Pools

Visit the Bird Hide by the Thames and use the interpretation panel to identify the birds you can see.
The river along the edge of the estate is teaming with bird life. As well as the common water birds, Moorhen, Coot, Mallard and Mute Swan, look for Goosander during the winter months and the Great Crested Grebe with its distinctive eartufts during spring and early summer. Be patient and watch carefully. Perhaps you will be rewarded with a sighting of the Kingfisher, a bright flash of blue and a reddish- brown breast.

The Poplar Pools by the river are the most species rich places on the Nature Reserve. Visitors should be able to see dragonflies, damselflies, bees and smooth newts. The wetland area at the side of the Thames is also home to the rare Loddon Lily.
